THE PROBLEM OF URBAN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN ANGOLA: ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF GARBAGE DUMPS ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE POPULATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

Main Article Content

Abstract

In the 48 years of Angola's independence, followed by 21 years of peace throughout the country, the Angolan population grew considerably, and with it, new cities emerged. However, this growth has brought significant challenges related to urban solid waste management throughout the country.

The municipality of Moxico, for example, still lacks a sanitary landfill. Consequently, urban solid waste is collected and disposed of in inappropriate locations, resulting in the formation of open-air dumps.

This research aimed to assess the environmental impacts caused by the dump located in the Kwenha neighborhood of the municipality of Moxico and the province of the same name, whose problems stem from poor urban solid waste management.

Finally, a survey was conducted with the community, represented by a sample group, to determine how the presence of this dump has affected the quality of life of residents.
