Abstract
This academic paper analyzes the conflicts between Angolaʼs codified legal system and the cultural traditions of the Nhaneca-Humbe ethnic group, specifically regarding succession and inheritance practices. The study adopts a qualitative approacch, using documentary analysis, case studies, and interviews with traditional authorities. It desmostrates that the matrilineal family structure of the individualistic and patriarcal principles of the Civil Code. The absence of clear legal guidelines for integrating customary and statutory law leads to judcial decisions that may be unjust from the commnutyʼs cultural perspective. The paper proposes the institutionazation of legal pluralism through the development of especific legislation, intercultural training for judges, and formal recognition of traditional inheritance systems as essential steps toward building a more inclusive and effective legal system in Angola.
