Main Article Content
Abstract
The study investigated the perceptions of citizens of Luanda Sul, in Viana, regarding the importance of lawyers in legal defense, identified barriers to accessing legal services in the community, and proposed recommendations to improve access and the quality of these services. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, five residents of Luanda Sul, selected through theoretical in-depth contrast sampling, were interviewed.
Thematic analysis of the data revealed that lawyers are widely recognized as essential to ensuring a fair trial and defending rights in court, although they face significant challenges, such as a shortage of local legal resources and high costs. Recommendations include expanding local legal resources, reducing the cost of legal services, and promoting community legal education. In conclusion, this study highlights the urgent need for interventions that promote a more accessible and equitable legal system in Luanda Sul.
