Main Article Content
Abstract
The present study aims to analyse the impact of psychological support on 6th-grade students with low performance in the subject of Portuguese Language at Rei Mandume Primary School BG 5001, located in the Municipality of Ganda, Province of Benguela. This research is a descriptive study that seeks to detail and understand the factors that influence these students’ academic performance, highlighting the emotional and cognitive needs that interfere with the learning process. The study adopts a qualitative approach, allowing an in-depth exploration of students’ perceptions, experiences, and feelings regarding the difficulties in learning the Portuguese Language and the proposed psychological interventions. Data collection was carried out using the focus group technique, structured into three distinct strata, each composed of four students, totalling twelve participants. This organisation made it possible to observe group dynamics, identify behavioural patterns, and collect relevant information on the obstacles encountered by the students and the most effective support strategies. It is expected that the results of this research will significantly contribute to the school community by promoting the importance of psychological support as a tool to improve academic performance and students’ emotional well-being. Furthermore, the study offers guidance for teachers and school managers to implement more targeted pedagogical and psychological support practices, strengthening the school–community relationship and fostering an inclusive school environment conducive to the integral development of children.
